Ever After has got to be one of the best feel-good movies. EVAR. I just love that movie...
Last night, our guys (i.e. my brother Eric and dad) couldn't stay home for a fancy candle-lit dinner, since they had firearms safety classes to go to. They did, however, leave us girls home all alone, in the nice quiet house, to eat chocolate and watch Ever After... *sighs contentedly* How's that for a present? :D
That movie seems to leave me grinning no matter how many times I watch it. I think they did such an excellent job of making Danielle spunky, but not too spunky. *suffers from accute Mary-Sue paranoia* The only thing that really bugs me, is the part where she rescues herself. I think it would have felt "right", and overall more satisfactory, if they'd allowed Henry to actually rescue her... But the general wonderfulness of the movie more than makes up. :) Some of Danielle and Henry's witty repartee reminds me so much of conversations between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. I think the brilliance of the dialogue is one of the things that sets it aside as one a really good romance. (Not to mention that it's a clean romance--a rare find.)
What a perfect end, though: "Yes, they did live happily ever after--but the important thing, gentlemen, is that they lived..."
